The planning situation for a possible
Life-Link & UNESCO ASPnet project 2009-2011
A pilot study 2007-2008.
Life-Link in collaboration with UNESCO ASPnet has performed a pilot ESD project (Education for Sustainability) involving 50 schools in nine Arab countries plus 50 schools in ten other countries world-wide.
The project was based on the Life-Link actions Culture of Care (2:01) and Water for Life (3:08).
The assessed results were reported at an evaluation conference in Petra Jordan June 2008.
The conference delegates, representatives from 13 UNESCO National Commissions, and reactions from participating schools (students, teachers, parents!) recommend a continuation into an extended project 2009-2011 !

Money
One crucial point before moving into an extended Project 2009-2011 is financing. Life-Link has formulated an application for money, and we will probably know the result in January or February 2009.
So what can we do awaiting the application result?
During the gap-period, before a possible 2009-2011 start in October 2009, we strongly propose that the 50 + 50 schools once again perform the
Culture of Care action (November 08 - January 09), and the
Water for Life action (March - May 09).
The Teacher’s Guidelines (first edition from the Pilot Project) can be used again for the benefit of new students that have entered the project classes at your school/s.
We strongly advice that each of the 50 + 50 schools register on the www.life-link.org/aspnet.
A registration system will be introduced and ready by November 2008, and each school will receive the necessary passwords for the reporting website.
Reporting should be made in the same way as during the first pilot project phase.

Some preliminary plans for a visioned Project 2009-2011
In February 2009 (or as soon as we know the results!) Life-Link will announce the result of the financial application.
Even though we do not know the results, we are optimistic and We have outlined the preliminary structures for how to perform a 2009-2011 project:
2009 (Quality) could start in October, still with the 50 + 50 schools as a base for participation. The idea with the first year 2009 could be to improve project and Guidelines quality.
2010 (Higher Quantity) could/should be open for new schools and countries to join.
2011 (Stabilization of program) should consolidate/stabilize the project at participating schools and ministries.
A 2009-2011 visioned project (that we hope will turn into reality!) will promote Teacher Training, Dialogue-Schools interaction, Annual conferences.
Life-Link has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNESCO Amman office, indicating that we are willing to work together for a proposed Project 2009-2011.
